Peekaboo is built to need as little of your data as possible. This page explains exactly what exists and where it goes.
Everything you configure — your radar location, saved places, tracked aircraft, filters, theme, and settings — is stored locally in your browser (localStorage) only. None of it is sent to a server we control, unless you choose to create an account (see section 5) — that remains entirely optional, and the app works fully without one. Uninstalling the app or clearing site data removes your local settings completely.
On your very first launch, before you set a location yourself, the app may request your approximate location from a public IP-geolocation lookup service to center the map near you. This is the only case where anything about you leaves your device before you've explicitly configured the app. If you deny location access or set a location manually, this doesn't happen.
The app fetches live public data directly from your browser to these providers, per their own respective privacy policies:
Peekaboo loads Travelpayouts Drive, a third-party script (from tpembars.com) that may insert travel-booking widgets or convert travel-related content into affiliate links, and may set its own cookie to track affiliate attribution if you click through to book something. We don't control what this script does beyond installing it — see Travelpayouts' own privacy policy for how it handles data. If you complete a booking through a link it generates, Peekaboo may earn a commission from the travel provider — this never costs you anything beyond what you'd pay booking directly.
The toolbar's Book panel embeds a second, separate Travelpayouts product: a real, Peekaboo-themed search page hosted at book.peekaboo.fyi, shown in a sandboxed frame. Your search (route, dates) is sent to Travelpayouts to return real results; no account or sign-in is required to use it, and it's unrelated to Peekaboo's own optional account system described in section 5. The search may also be pre-filled with your nearest airport and, if you've set one, your saved trip destination (set directly in the Book panel) — sent only as airport codes (e.g. "AMS"), never raw GPS coordinates, and only when both an origin and destination are known (an origin alone is never sent). This is on by default, since the whole point is saving you from re-typing a route Peekaboo can already work out — you can always search a different route yourself once the panel is open, or use the "Open full page" link, which never carries any prefill.
The Book panel also contains plain outbound affiliate links: three generated through the Travelpayouts program (GetTransfer for airport transfer booking, Airalo for travel eSIM data plans, Klook for tours/activities/attraction tickets), and one generated through the separate Expedia Group Creator Toolbox program (Expedia, hotel search). A private/business jet's info card may show a plain outbound affiliate link to Villiers Jets (private jet charter quotes), via their own separate affiliate program. Separately, an aircraft's info card may show a plain outbound affiliate link to AirHelp (flight delay/cancellation compensation claims) — shown only when that specific flight's status is delayed, cancelled, or diverted — and, for a flight you're tracking, a plain outbound link to request a ride via Uber once it has landed; this Uber link is built from the flight's public landing location only (no other personal data), and does not fire at all unless you're actively tracking that flight. None of these eight are embedded scripts or widgets — each is a plain link that only sends data to the respective third party if you actually click it and continue to their site, at which point their own privacy policy governs.
Scanning a boarding pass (Book panel) asks for your device camera's permission, used entirely on-device: the video feed is only ever read by your own browser to look for a real IATA barcode (the same open, unencrypted format printed on every boarding pass) and never recorded, uploaded, or sent to Peekaboo or anyone else. Denying or not using this feature changes nothing else about the app.
Sharing a location or an itinerary (the "Share my location" button, and "Share this itinerary to your phone" inside the full-itinerary view) both work the same way: the shared data (a name and coordinates, or a tracked flight key and destination) is encoded directly into the link itself — never sent to or stored on a Peekaboo server. Anyone who opens that link sees exactly what it encodes, so only share it with people you intend to see that information.
If you subscribe to Premium, payment is handled entirely by Paddle.com, acting as merchant of record. Paddle collects and processes your payment and billing contact details directly — we never see or store your card details. We receive only a signed entitlement token confirming your subscription tier, with no billing information attached. See Paddle's own privacy policy for how they handle your payment data.
Peekaboo now offers an entirely optional account, reachable from Settings → Account, so your saved locations can sync across your own devices and you can connect with friends to see each other's saved locations. Creating one is a deliberate choice — the app is fully usable without it, exactly as before. If you choose to sign in:
We do not run analytics or tracking scripts beyond what's disclosed above. Nothing about how you use the app — beyond what's necessary to serve the optional account feature described in section 5 — is collected or sold.
